Shutterbug Walkabouts recognises the importance of protecting the privacy of individual-specific information collected about its customers, prospective customers and website visitors. All information obtained by us is used for the sole purpose of supporting your individual requirements and is not disclosed to any other organisation without your knowledge or permission to do so.

The information we collect and why…

We may collect, store and use the following types of personal information.

  • Information provided by you – this relates to the information you provide in regards to booking an experience with Shutterbug Walkabouts and includes your name, phone number, email address, country of residence, tour date, dietary requirements, accommodation in Hobart, and any other information you choose to provide to us. This information is usually obtained when you make a booking with us via our online booking system (Rezdy) or when you send us a message via our contact form or by direct email. It is collected so we can run our tours and tuition sessions efficiently and be appropriately prepared for your individual requirements.
  • Personal information provided in written form – Shutterbug Walkabouts stores some written information about tours and tuition sessions. This may include details of the activities conducted during the experience as well as any necessary forms and reports that may be required for the purpose of recording and reporting an incident in the event something unforeseen occurs.
  • Website analytics – when you visit the Shutterbug Walkabouts website, we gather information about your computer and about your visits to and use of the website (including your IP address, geographical location, browser type and version, operating system, referral source, length of visit, page views, website navigation). This information is obtained for the purpose of search engine optimisation with an aim to better target potential customers for Shutterbug Walkabouts.
  • Transaction information – if you make a booking with Shutterbug Walkabouts, information relating to payment transactions carried out between you and us will be recorded, including the amount, time and date of the transaction.
    • In the case of payments processed via PayPal or Stripe – only your name, email address, amount of the transaction and transaction ID are received and recorded. PayPal provides no information to us in relation to the bank account or credit cards you have linked to your PayPal account.

    • In the case of payments processed via Direct Bank Deposit – the only information you provide to us by way of a remittance advice or notification of payment will be stored in our records. If you request your bank to send a payment notification to us on your behalf, we have only the information that your bank provides to us in that notification.
      If for some reason, it is necessary for you to provide us with a bank account for the purpose of facilitating an agreed funds transfer from us to you, we do not actively store account details after the transaction has been processed and received by you.

How is your information used?

Personal information – Personal information you provide us will not be used for any other purpose other than relating to your photography experience or tour with us. This is used by Shutterbug Walkabouts in preparation for and operation of your tour, tuition session or retreat, ensuring we meet your individual requirements. We may pass on your name and any special requirements to staff or third party suppliers (such as accommodation, activity and attraction operators) if and when pertinent to accommodating your request.

Feedback – after you photography experience with us, we ask for feedback on the quality of your experience. Your feedback is used by Shutterbug Walkabouts to ensure quality and ongoing improvement of the experiences offered by us. If deemed necessary to pass feedback onto suppliers, only reference to the actual feedback is made – no personal details will be conveyed.

Rest assured, we never release any personal or contact details to a third party without prior consent.

Cookies – A cookie consists of information sent by a web server to a web browser, and stored by the browser. The information is then sent back to the server each time the browser requests a page from the server. This enables the web server to identify and track the web browser. We may, on occasions, use cookies in which case it will be a combination of ‘session’ cookies and ‘persistent’ cookies –

  • Session cookies’ – keep track of you as you navigate the website and will be deleted from your computer when you close your browser.
  • ‘Persistent cookies’ – enable our website to recognise you when you visit. These will remain stored on your computer until deleted, or until they reach a specified expiry date.

Use of our website and corresponding analytics…

When you visit our website (www.shutterbugwalkabouts.com.au), a record of your visit is recorded solely for statistical purposes. The type of information that may be recorded includes –

  • Your network address at the time of visit
  • The date and time you visited our website
  • The pages visited
  • The type of web browser and operating system you used
  • The type of mobile device and operating system you used
  • The number of times you visited

We use Google Analytics to analyse the use of this website (via the plugin ‘MonsterInsights’). This generates statistical and other information about website use by means of cookies, which are stored on users’ computers. The information generated relating to our website is used to create reports about the use of the website. Google will store this information.

Most browsers allow you to reject all cookies, whilst some browsers allow you to reject just third party cookies. For example, in Internet Explorer you can refuse all cookies by clicking “Tools”, “Internet Options”, “Privacy”, and selecting “Block all cookies” using the sliding selector. Blocking all cookies will, however, have a negative impact upon the usability of many websites, including this one.

What we do with your information…

Personal information submitted to us via this website will be used for the purposes specified in this privacy policy or in relevant parts of the website. We will not provide your personal information to any third party for the purpose of direct marketing.

We may use your personal information to:

  • Administer the website
  • Improve your browsing experience by personalising the website
  • Enable your use of the services available on the website
  • Send you general (non-marketing) communications
  • Send you email notifications that you specifically request e.g. booking confirmation/ payment receipt
  • Send to you follow up email after your tour e.g. a reminder to write us a trip advisor review (you can inform us at any time if you no longer wish to receive communications)
  • Provide third parties with statistical information about our users – but this information will not identify any individual user
  • Deal with enquiries and feedback made by or about you, relating to your experience

When you submit personal information for publication (e.g. Trip Advisor, Facebook), we may publish and use that information in accordance with the permission you grant to us.

When and why we have to disclose your information to others…

We may disclose information about you to any of our employees, agents or subcontractors as is reasonably necessary for the purposes of efficiently managing your tour or experience with us, as set out in this privacy policy.

In addition, we may disclose your personal information

  1. To the extent that we are required to do so by law
  2. In connection with any legal proceedings or prospective legal proceedings
  3. In order to establish, exercise or defend our legal rights (including providing information to others for the purposes of fraud prevention and reducing credit risk)
  4. To the purchaser (or prospective purchaser) of any business or asset which we are (or are contemplating) selling
  5. To any person who we reasonably believe may apply to a court or other competent authority for disclosure of that personal information where, in our reasonable opinion, such court or authority would be reasonably likely to order disclosure of that personal information.

Except as provided in this privacy policy, we will not provide your information to third parties.

How we keep your information safe…

We take all reasonable technical and organisational precautions to prevent any loss, misuse or alteration of your personal information.
We store the personal information you provide on our secure servers (password- and firewall- protected).
The information you provide to us is collected by us via WPForms online forms on our website and/or Rezdy, a dedicated booking system for tour operators.

A summary of your booking and the information you provide is integrated with cloud-based calendar and diary services provided by Google and Apple.

What else should you know?

It is reasonable to expect that data transmission over the Internet is inherently insecure. We cannot completely guarantee the security of data sent over the Internet at any time. As far as we believe and understand, all third parties such as email servers, online forms and booking systems are all GDPR compliant.

Personal information recorded on paper may (albeit rarely) be securely stored in our office in a locked filing cabinet. By law, we are required to keep these documents for up to 7 years after which we will destroy it in a secure manner.

No financial transactions or physical addresses are stored in this manner; these records only relate to basic information in relation to your tour (i.e. a summary of the information that you provide us).

Policy amendments

We may update this privacy policy from time-to-time by amending and publishing a new version on our website. We encourage you to check this page occasionally to ensure that you are satisfied with any changes. We may notify you of changes to our privacy policy by email.

Right to view your information and to be forgotten

You may instruct us to provide you with any personal information we hold about you; this is entirely your right. Provision of such information will be subject to the supply of appropriate evidence of your identity (for this purpose, we will usually accept a photocopy of your passport certified by a solicitor or bank plus an original copy of a utility bill showing your current address).

We may withhold such personal information to the extent permitted by law.

We do keep personal information in the form of your contact details if you contact Shutterbug Walkabouts. You have the opportunity to opt-out of the use of your personal information for any purpose by sending us an email or opting out of our mailing list at any time.

You have the right to be forgotten. You may instruct us not to store personal information and to be completely deleted from our system. We have the ability in our forms and booking systems to delete your information in its entirety.

What we will do in the event of a breach

We believe in only collecting information relevant to your tour or tuition session with Shutterbug Walkabouts. We do not collect any unnecessary and personal information such as your income, education, political views etc; we only collect the information you provide to us. Data collection is kept to a minimum. In the event that your information is breached, we are obliged to inform you as well as the appropriate authorities within 72 hours. The proprietors of Shutterbug Walkabouts are responsible for managing breaches. In the event of a breach, we will inform you of the nature of the breach and how we are managing it.

Third party websites

Our website contains links to other websites and we also rely on some third party services for storage of and processing of data to support our day to day customer related activities. We are not responsible for the privacy policies or practices of third party websites nor the ever-changing aspect of individual third party privacy policies, as listed below
