Saturday 4th to Monday 6th May 2019
An interactive weekend of nature, landscape and night-sky photography…
in the scenic and pristine Central Highlands of Tasmania
Enhance your photographic creativity with a series of guided photo shoots at dusk, dawn, sunrise, sunset, twilight and night… and if atmospheric conditions are right, Mother Nature’s spectacular light show – the Aurora Australis (Southern Lights) will light up the night sky. Photography instruction is conveyed in an informal, yet thought-provoking and practical approach so you can experiment with different camera settings to discover what works, what doesn’t and why.
Rest and relax for two nights at Thousand Lakes Lodge, ‘a wilderness lodge in a place like no other’, for a little bit of luxury in a rugged wilderness. The lodge is located on the shores of Lake Augusta and surrounded by 1,000+ pristine glacial lakes; the idyllic ambience is sure to inspire.
Join us to discover, experience and photograph the Thousand Lakes region and capture the raw beauty of nature and stunning scenery of the Central Plateau Conservation Area of Tasmania.
“I was throughly pleased with the total package offered by Roy & Coreena. Roy provided first class tuition on composition to me and his critiques of images taken was very insightful and extremely valuable. ... ... Nothing was rushed, Coreena provided excellent support. Overall a very worthwhile experience and highly recommended.”Dallas T, NSWAlpine Lakes Nature Photography Weekend, 2018
(activities adapted to suit weather and conditions)
Make your way to the Central Highlands and meet us at Thousand Lakes Lodge by 12.30pm. Upon arrival, join an introductory meet & greet after which a welcome lunch will be served as we chat informally about all things photography and the weekend’s activities. Our first photography tutorial and walkabout take place after lunch. Rooms will be available from 3.00pm onwards when check-in will officially take place.
We’ll have dinner at the lodge then head outdoors for the first of two opportunities of a guided night sky photo shoot. If Mother Nature puts on her spectacular night light show in the dark sky, you may just have a chance at Aurora photography too.
An early start to the day with a sunrise shoot. Return to the lodge for breakfast after-which we will head out again for a morning photo walkabout.
Return to the lodge for lunch and some time at leisure; or use this time to participate in a post-processing tutorial. We’ll regroup for an afternoon photo walkabout including twilight and sunset, returning to the lodge for dinner.
After dinner, shoot for the stars with another night sky photo shoot, and again, if the opportunity presents, Aurora photography.
Rise early for another opportunity to capture the first light as the sun rises over the stunning alpine landscape. We return to our accommodation for breakfast and check-out of your allocated room. After check-out, join a final photo review and post-processing tutorial before departing.
The weekend officially concludes after lunch. You may choose to take more time to photograph the area or opt to visit local attractions on your return home. Heading south to Hobart – Waddamana (Hydro) Power Station Museum, The Steppes Historic Site and Nant Estate whisky distillery, or heading north – Pine Lake and Liffey Falls.
