29th March to 1st April 2019
Flinders Island is, without a doubt, a photographer’s paradise! Located about 60kms off the northeast coast of Tasmania, it is the largest of the Furneaux Group of islands that stretch across the eastern end of Bass Strait, between Tasmania and Victoria. The island is famous for its tranquility, unspoilt natural landscapes, wildlife and birds.
For nature and landscape photographers, there’s a myriad of photo opportunities. From the rugged mountain ranges to the lichen-covered boulders that border pristine beaches and coastal habitats and so much more in between. The abundance of wildlife and birds will astound you too – an opportunity to improve your wildlife and bird photography skills too.
Just like all our photography experiences, you will learn-by-doing and gain a deeper understanding for photography. During this practical learning photography workshop, you’ll learn about analysing natural light, deepen your understanding of the exposure triangle, camera settings for different scenes and conditions, how to interpret the histogram, post-processing techniques and so much more. You will develop a heightened level of confidence in your skills, improve photographic creativity and be rewarded with incredibly stunning images.
You’ll explore the great outdoors on guided photo shoots at sunrise and sunset, while taking advantage of morning and evening light. You’ll review your photos progressively throughout the weekend to continually evolve your individual technique. And you’ll benefit even further with our interactive post-processing tutorials too.
This photography retreat is an all-inclusive weekend getaway for photographers of all levels. From the moment you arrive on Flinders Island to the moment you depart with a plethora of amazing photos, we look after you!
(activities adapted to suit weather and conditions)
The weekend starts on Flinders Island where we’ll meet you at the airport when you arrive. We’ll transfer you from the airport to Mountain Seas Lodge (accommodation for the next 3 nights).
While enjoying a scrumptious lunch, we’ll have an informal discussion about cameras, lenses, tripods and other accessories, taking more control of your camera and the thought process in creating great photos. We’ll also brief you about the activities planned across the weekend.
We’ll head out for a sunset shoot and return to the lodge for dinner and prepare for the next two full days of photographic activities.
The next two days are dedicated to photography activities.
You’ll explore the great outdoors of magnificent Flinders Island with guided photo shoots at sunrise and sunset while taking advantage of morning and evening light.
There’s such an array of picturesque locations on Flinders Island. Because we have so many options to choose from, we’re keeping our itinerary reasonably flexible so we can assess the weather and conditions, and choose the most suitable location for each photo shoot. One thing for sure, all that you see will inspire your photographic creativity.
The photography weekend officially winds up to a close after breakfast and we check out of our accommodation. But before it does, there’s one more opportunity for an early morning shoot after which we’ll return to the lodge for a cooked breakfast.
Transfers to the airport will occur according to your departing flight time.
Transfers also available for anyone extending their stay on the island – whether to alternate accommodation or to collect a hire car.
“I was throughly pleased with the total package offered by Roy & Coreena. Roy provided first class tuition on composition to me and his critiques of images taken was very insightful and extremely valuable. ... ... Nothing was rushed, Coreena provided excellent support. Overall a very worthwhile experience and highly recommended.”Dallas T, NSWPhotography Retreat, March 2018
Flinders Island weather
Flinders Island has a mild maritime climate. But being an island, it can be windy at times. One of the reasons that we’ve chosen autumn for our photography weekend is because that’s when the weather is historically most stable. You can find out more about the weather and climate on Flinders Island at www.weatherzone.com.au
