Tasmania is home to 12 bird species found nowhere else on Earth; these are the true endemics that are a delight to see in their natural habitat. In addition, Tasmania hosts 2 breeding endemics (birds that breed exclusively here before migrating to mainland Australia). There are also a few species endemic at the subspecies level, like the Tasmanian Wedge-tailed Eagle.
