”While engaging in nature photography, my mind is rich with the potential for new and different experiences and the opportunity to ignite creativity through exploring fresh ideas, perspectives, approaches, and techniques.
Influenced by my personal aspirations, every click of the shutter has the potential to boost a sense of achievement and success. Of course, it can sometimes go the other way because a photo captured may not be what I hoped for – this is photography!
However, let’s focus on the positives and the potential for a remarkable number of small successes during our individual journeys with our cameras.
In the context of my own life, I (Coreena) am grateful that nature photography gives me a profound feeling of accomplishment across numerous facets of my life, even the ones that don’t involve taking photos. So many ‘first-time’ and ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ work and life experiences have been presented to me because of my passion for the outdoors, nature and photography. For instance, my career in travel and tourism… I don’t think I would be doing what I am doing today (leading enriching nature photography experiences for you) without having had the many and varied experiences in my life.
I’ve been fortunate to travel far and wide over the years and many of my decisions about where to travel have been based on how much time I get to spend outdoors exploring the natural beauty of our world. And of course, with my camera in hand. And Roy has done the same.
As guides of photography experiences, we (Coreena and Roy) are privileged to participate in our guests’ experiential journeys. It gives us so much delight to witness an array of ‘firsts’ and ‘WOW’ moments as our guests experiment with different camera settings, master a photographic technique, embrace alternative perspectives, and enhance their photographic collection with the images they create.
Even when photography isn’t the primary passion for some participants, we still share in their nature-inspired photo-taking accomplishments in numerous ways.
Those new to photography or who have recently purchased a new camera often experience significant learning curves at the beginning of their journey. At this stage, every step taken is a new or ‘first-time’ experience. Often there are perceived obstacles or challenges to overcome. Although, once they are overcome, a sense of achievement and success develops.
For some of our shutterbug guests, a sense of accomplishment is achieved from the simple act of dedicating time to pursuing their passion for photography, an interest that is often sidelined by life’s bustling demands.
So, how might you appraise your sense of accomplishment during your photography journey?
I find myself wondering if, as human as we all are, we tend to overlook some of our accomplishments, even some that are more significant than others.
I invite you to think about how many successful accomplishments you have achieved during your photography journey so far. I bet it’s more than you realise! From now on, let your successes shine, every single one of them! Celebrate each and every accomplishment, no matter how small or large, every step of the way.
