A vision and purpose shaped by our journeys
In 2007, two outdoorsy photo enthusiasts, Coreena and Roy, met for the first time, beginning their journey to discover their shared and compatible interests.
It didn’t take long for them to find common ground in their love for photography, travel, hiking, mountain biking, and other outdoor activities (and of course their commitment to each other 😉). An engaging connection evolved and solidified their bond, which has continually developed over time. When it comes to photography, a defining moment early in their relationship was when Roy handed Coreena his then camera, a Canon 20D DSLR, to ‘borrow’. This gave Roy the perfect excuse to upgrade to a newer camera model – and was a gesture that truly sealed the deal! Did Coreena return the borrowed camera? Well, you can likely guess the answer to this question.
A couple of years, and many adventures later, a vision was born to share their passion for photography and the outdoors with others, through interactive, nature-based travel and photography experiences.
While on a hike in Patagonia (with their cameras, of course) a sudden realisation struck; they were ‘shutterbugs on walkabout’! Captivated by this thought, their business name was chosen, right there and then!
And so, the story of Shutterbug Walkabouts begins
Since welcoming our first Shutterbug guest on 12th February 2012, we’ve proudly delighted hundreds more photo enthusiasts from around the globe with our attentive and personalised experiences. Their stories are shared in personal emails, 5-star reviews on Google and TripAdvisor, and throughout our website.

Meet Coreena
Photography Tutor & Experience Guide
Founder, Co-owner and Manager
Coreena is a seasoned nature photographer whose inner shutterbug has tagged along on all her adventures and travels. In 2007, her curiosity for creative photography turned into a meaningful pursuit after meeting Roy, whose lifelong dedication to photography and knack for clearly explaining concepts and techniques, shaped and accelerated Coreena’s photographic journey.
While today, photographing birds and wildlife in their natural habitat has become her greatest pursuit, it’s not all you'll see in her collection. Her gallery features a diverse collection of nature in all its forms.
Motivated by a love for sharing knowledge in a way that is unhurried as it is informative, Coreena creates a learning space that’s light on jargon and full of “oh, that’s how you do it!” moments. Hmm? What’s that thingamajiggy called again? 😜
She encourages active engagement with the environment and provides clear, concise explanations of photography techniques, making the learning process both immersive and enlightening.
By blending practical experimentation with valuable insights into what works, what doesn’t and why, participants gain a deeper understanding of photography in a supportive and enriching setting.
Coreena has over 25 years of travel industry experience, from guiding tours across Australia to planning travel itineraries. Combining her photography skills with her highly praised tour guidance, she takes great pride in crafting and leading travel and photography experiences that are both captivating and impeccably executed.
Meet Roy

Founder, Co-owner and Manager
Roy is an exceptionally skilled photographer, whose passion for photography ignited in his late teens and evolved into a lifelong pursuit. Over the years, he has honed his craft through extensive research, practice and experimentation, and has developed a discerning eye for the patterns, textures and subtleties of nature that often go unnoticed in daily life.
With outstanding technical expertise and fluency in the language of photography, Roy excels at simplifying complex concepts and breaking down intricate ideas into clear, actionable steps. His engaging and accessible teaching style inspires his tuition guests to master each technique with confidence, free from the overwhelm often associated with learning new skills.
As a tutor to countless aspiring photographers already (many of whom are now accomplished in their own way), Roy is known for his approachable and effective guidance. He demystifies intricate ideas and even interprets camera manuals with ease, helping photographers unlock their gear’s full potential.
