Bruny Island

Weekend Photography Retreat

Located off the south-east coast of Tasmania is Bruny Island which lies between the D’Entrecastaux Channel and Tasman Sea with the Southern Ocean to its south. ‘Bruny’ is made up of two land masses, North Bruny and South Bruny extending approximately 100kms from north to south, connected by a narrow isthmus known as ‘the neck’. There’s a bounty of nature photography opportunities whether its the stunning coastal landscape, native flowers, wildlife or birds that interest you most.

‘Bruny’ has almost 300kms of coastline and boasts towering sea cliffs, pristine white sandy beaches, one of Australia’s oldest lighthouses and a stunning and varied natural environment. There’s a diversity of plants and native flowers including orchids and the Tasmanian Waratah. The local wildlife inhabitants include rare and endangered white wallabies, all twelve of Tasmania’s endemic bird species including forty-spotted pardalotes along with echidnas,  pademelons, quolls, penguins and white-bellied sea eagles just to name a few.

Immerse yourself in breathtaking views, pristine sandy beaches and a truly unique natural environment. During this retreat you will enjoy a range of photographic opportunities including sunrise, sunset and night sky shoots. An abundance of natural features, bountiful birds and a thriving wildlife await you, the photographer! You will focus on what interests you most and be on location with a professional photographer, so you can take advantage of instruction and guidance to achieve awe-inspiring photos.

Locations will be selected as you learn more about the area and hear about our favourites. You’ll discuss different photographic perspectives and be where you most want to be when the light is just right. Enjoy a choice of outings throughout the day, especially early morning and evening – during the blue-hour and at twilight, dusk, dawn, sunset and sunrise. After dark, capture the magic of a starry night sky and, if atmospheric conditions are right, you may be fortunate to observe Mother Nature’s spectacular light show – an Aurora Australis (Southern Lights).

Your accommodation during this retreat will be in a photographer friendly lodge or cabin situated in an idyllic location where you are sure to relax and unwind after a full day of photography.

You will have a dedicated photography tutor and a tour host accompanying you so you don’t need do anything except relax, enjoy and immerse yourself in photography and your surroundings – the perfect stress-free weekend away.

Travelling with a non-photographer? There is plenty of opportunity to simply relax and enjoy other activities. Your tour host is available to be their guide while you enjoy all the photo shoots with your tutor.
